About Ixcanul

Ixcanul

Ixcanul - the story of a community that grows your coffee

The brilliant debut by Guatemalan filmmaker Jayro Bustamante is a mesmerizing fusion of fact and fable, a dreamlike depiction of the daily lives of Kaqchikel-speaking Mayans on a coffee plantation at the base of an active volcano. Immersing us in its characters' customs and beliefs, Ixcanul chronicles with unblinking realism a disappearing tradition and people. Guatemala's 2015 foreign film entry to the Academy Awards. 2015 Berlin Film Festival winner & first film made in Kaqchikel language (with subtitles). Q& A to follow.

All funds support Guatemalan Healthy Home kits: smokeless stoves, latrines & water filters. Dine and drink at the theater to thank McMenamins for donating their space.
