About Thomas Jefferson: The Man and his Legacy

Thomas Jefferson: The Man and his Legacy

Presented by Lynne McKee, former Collections Manager at Monticello

Founding Father, President of the United States, Vice-President of the United States, primary draftsman of the Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, founder of the University of Virginia, initiator of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  Thomas Jefferson has a long list of political achievements.  But he was also an architect, farmer, scientist, father, and husband.  Lynne McKee, former Collections Manager at Monticello, will share an insider’s view of Jefferson’s historic home and the man behind the myths.

About the Speaker:

Lynne McKee holds a BA in Anthropology from UC Davis and a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University.  She has worked for a variety of museums including the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, but her most memorable museum position was in the Curatorial Department at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s historic home in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she was responsible for Jefferson’s personal memorabilia and artifacts.
