Moving in the early twentieth century from the semi glamorous Wild West Show arena to the more challenging rough-stock arena, rodeo girls were among the first women in the United States to achieve valid recognition as professional athletes. Combining Wild West showmanship with undeniable athletic skill, they defied the conventional gender roles of the day by competing in a traditionally male dominated sport.                   

Join us for the story of one of those athletes - local legend Lorena Trickey, who ultimately became a World Champion Cowgirl. Her dad brought her to Pendleton in 1910 to see her first rodeo and nine years later, she won her first national championship there, becoming the "World Champion All Around Horsewoman", just one of many titles she would receive in her career. And what a career she had! Learn how the champion rodeo rider ended up working in Hollywood, doing stand in work for Mary Pickford and even drove a chariot in a Tom Mix movie.
