Camp Crush

New wave pop

Seeing Camp Crush live is like watching two people fall in love in front of you. And it’s true - the band was born when now-married Jen Deale and Chris Spicer discovered they were at the same summer camp together as children, and years later found each other in Portland, OR. With a late 80s mood-pop influence and driving indie rock rhythms, the duo has discovered new territory; a nuanced middle ground between Madonna and Brandon Flowers, Debbie Harry and Win Butler, “blending old school and indie rock into something wonderful” according to Pop Dust.

The band has been busy, releasing two EPs in the last year, getting placement on Volume 16 of PDX Pop Now, touring the northwest, and preparing to release a third EP fall 2019.

Camp Crush's soaring vocals combined with blistering synths, epic balladry, punching drums, and substantive lyrics all make for a near cinematic musical experience that is unforgettable.

DoublePlay Music ft. David Pollack

Indie-pop singer-songwriter

Great songwriting and performances have lit up the skyline of New York City singer songwriter David Pollack’s life and career.

From an early age, he was turned on to the music of Paul Simon, James Taylor, and The Beatles. Places like the Meadowlands were his playground, where his father took him to see greats like Bruce Springsteen perform. By the time Pollack reached the age of 12, he picked up his first guitar. By then, he was exploring the sounds of post punk and indie rock from artists such as Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie, and Modest Mouse.

He spent his summers in such institutions as Bucks Rock Creative Arts Camp and the Berklee School of Music summer program, as well as working in internships with Rough Magic Studios and music promotions firm Creative Entertainment Group.

In high school, Pollack formed a band called Play that took the local scene by storm. At 16, he recorded his first EP after winning a free recording session from a JCC Battle of the Bands. Play went on to perform at well-known venues like The Knitting Factory, CBGB’s, and Sullivan Hall.

After high school, Pollack enrolled at the University of Vermont, where he was a member of the Jazz Vocal Ensemble and the UVM Top Cats Acapella group. A year later, he decided to move back to New York City, where he would record an EP of lo-fi tracks entitled Out the Other Side. He spent several months touring in support of the album until he transferred to Fordham University. While studying media and communications, Pollack began working at Public Radio station WFUV alongside Dennis Elsas and Rita Houston.

During his time at Fordham in 2010, Pollack formed a band called Bridges with drummer Steele Kratt and bassist Sasha Korolkoff. Bridges would later be joined by new members Julia Barrett Mitchell, Nick Jenkins, and guitarist Daisy Spencer (who would later go on to play in the band The Skins.) While together, Bridges released a self-titled EP followed by another titled Groundwork, both in 2011, and played shows for audiences throughout greater New York.

David Pollack went solo after Bridges disbanded in 2012. He went back into the studio in September, working with Producer and Engineer Oliver Ignatius at Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen. and released two singles (What Do I Do?, Hot Love). In addition to releasing tracks from the Mama Coco’s sessions, Pollack worked with producers Gian Stone at Stone Studios, Rick Torres at Buskerville Studios in Queens and Gordon Grady (Lady GaGa, Alicia Keys) to create his debut full length "Put It Into Words." The record was mixed and mastered by Grammy-winner Jon D’Uva (Louis CK, Breaking Benjamin, Paramore) and released in January of 2014. Pollack is currently touring to support the record.

Traditional folk fusion

Varelse is a unique combination of various traditions, instruments and histories. Nyckelharpa, fiddle, six-string guitar and various hand percussion instruments come together to create a groove and sound that is simultaneously old and new. Weaving together Scandinavian folk tradition, North American fiddle tunes and Western European melodies, along with African and Middle Eastern rhythmic traditions, Varelse is pushing the boundaries of folk fusion.

Sweet N' Juicy

Party band

Sweet N' Juicy formed in 2017 with the intention of creating songwriter-funk, people-pleasing music.

They were the house band for a weekly variety show which featured Grammy Award winners, comedians, local celebrities and more for several years in their hometown of Portland, Ore. Individually members have been on Warped tour, MTV, High Times Magazine, co-written music with Blondie, and have been session musicians for dozens of records. Couple that with a vaudevillian style performance and you have a unique and entertaining show. Be ready to party.

Great American Trainwreck

Americana

Based out of Seattle, Washington, Great American Trainwreck was formed in 2016. The group began when former bandmates and lifelong friends got together to share their passion for rootsy Americana. Their music blends southern rock, bluegrass, and classic country. Lyric-driven songs combined with melodic riffs and heavenly harmonies help to define their progressive approach to traditional genres. 

GAT completed recording their album at Bear Creek Studios in early 2019 and will be releasing it on May 23. The album features guest appearances by Danny Barnes (Banjo), Dave Harmonson (Pedal Steel), and Judd Wasserman (Vocals).

Known for literary lyrics, captivating melodies and a voice of humble power, Ronnie Carrier is an eclectic songwriting star rising up in the West. A skilled lyricist who creates narrative through an emotional blend of varying musical influences, Ronnie is unmatched in both style and structure. Jessa Campbell

Folk

Jessa Campbell is a rising female songstress making waves in the Portland, OR music scene. She has toured the world singing with Wayne Newton, performing as a singer on Holland America Line Cruises, working with international theatre companies and with a traveling arts production of the Carnival de Resistance. Her experiences have left her with the desire to root down and create a home base where she and her partner raise their family a birth their touring music and skills cooperative: SEAD. Jessa recently released her first EP "Great Grey Owl", drawing from experiences living in this bioregion and from Hildegard Von Bingen's musical compositions that she fused with her original work. One of the single's off this EP, "Great Grey Owl" was recently was chosen as a "Homemade Jams" contest winner by Resonate Choral Arts of Portland to be and performed by their choir for their Fall 2017 season. Watch for a new music video "Cedar" for one of the songs off the new EP. Jessa is currently writing and recording new music with 5 time Grammy-nominated and 28 time Dove-nominated Producer Billy Smiley out of Dark Horse Recording Studios in Nashville, TN. She's also hosting a monthly series every 3rd Wednesday at the White Eagle with Local Roots with the intent of creating all-age spaces for musicians who are parents. Bring your kids along, as her son Cedar will be there every month.

Rose Gerber and Sweet Relief

Alt-country

Known for the unique juxtaposition of her wry wit and ability to pen a heartbreaking ballad, Rose is the sparkwielding title character in Portland’s homegrown alt/country rock band, Rose Gerber and Sweet Relief. Like so many PNW bands, born in a garage during the rainy season in 2017, a labor that consisted of the blue-ribbon twang of their trio of guitars (pedal steel, acoustic, and electric), and Rose’s smooth Americana alto. Together, the five-piece band is a melting pot of essential American sounds, bringing a high lonesome rock vibe to the familiar down home marriage of soaring harmonies and pedal steel whine. The band will remind you at once of Fleetwood Mac and Woody Guthrie, a Natalie Merchant-fronts-The Cardinals dose of nostalgia and innovation that can shift a pub crowd from laughter to heartache with just a handful of chords and Rose’s melancholy croon.

Surrounding the release of their debut album, Another Heartache, in the spring of 2019, Rose Gerber and Sweet Relief has been working the bucket list of essential Portland venues, wrecking havoc and heartache from the Alberta St. Pub to The Kennedy School. They’re a good time backed by some serious musical clout, with two of five band members hailing from the Berklee College of Music. Rose Gerber and Sweet Relief is at best the next reinvention of a timeless genre, and at worst the tune-wailing definition of Portland – where prowess, passion, and rainfall convene in a corner bar, keep the whiskey flowing, and sing the sort of songs we all want to come home to.

Marianne Flemming

Hippy chick blues

Originally from south Florida, Flemming has been a professional musician for more than 30 years winning numerous songwriting and "Best of" awards for her jazzy, bluesy sound. Marianne is known as a fine singer, composer and guitarist. She has opened for many national acts including Donavon, Taj Mahal and Roger McGuinn of the Byrds. Marianne has toured the United States, Europe and the Caribbean.

From The Bluebird Café in Nashville, to The Bitter End in New York and Seattle's Folk Life stage, Marianne has appeared on many stages across the country. Her recorded music has been played on radio stations around the world.
After spending 10 years in Madison Wisconsin, Marianne added family and children to her proudest of accomplishments. Currently, residing in SW Washington, Marianne balances her day job as a special education teacher, mother to two teenagers and music obsession with mostly a smile.

Robert Richter

Dirty folk-rock blues

Portland singer-songwriter and guitarist Robert Richter is an energetic performer creating music blending different genres from folk to blues to rock played with passion and energy as solo, duo or with his band. He describes the sound as "dirty folk rock blues."

His latest CD - his seventh - is comprised entirely of songs written by Richter, titled Thick and Thin.

Richter’s credits include appearing on Tom May's nationally syndicated radio program "River City Folk," carried on more than 250 NPR and community radio affiliates nationwide.

In addition, his music was played on the "Bob Dylan Radio Hour" heard on the Sirius Satellite Network and on KUSF-FM in San Francisco. He recently performed live on KOIN-TV (CBS affiliate in Portland) during their morning news show and also performed live on KGW-TV (NBC affiliate in Portland) on "Live at 7."

Richter and his band have performed at KINK-FM Noon Tunes at Pioneer Courthouse SQ, The Portland Rose Festival Main Stage and festivals and concerts around the Pacific Northwest.

"Robert Richter is a charismatic entertainer that gives his all every time he performs and is a stellar musician.” Morry Feldman of WQED-FM in Pittsburgh, Penn., said.

In addition to his solo project, Richter also is lead singer and guitarist for the Portland based Celtic band Castletown.

Lane Norberg

Singer-songwriter

Lane Norberg is a singer-songwriter from Portland, OR. Growing up in Montana, he learned to play piano and drums, but didn't begin playing the guitar or singing until college. During these years, Norberg began to play and record mostly cover songs, but soon he was writing his own music and quickly began to gain fans in the area. After graduating from college in 2016, Norberg shifted his focus towards his music career, and got connected with Chris Cunningham, a local producer and musician. Cunningham owns

Basecamp Recording Studio, a recording space located in beautiful Bozeman, MT, where Norberg recorded his first EP "Under the Trees". The EP is now available on every digital music platform.

Norberg's acoustic-pop sound is accompanied by lyrics that are thoughtful and often written from personal experience. His songs are driven by faith, love, and all of life's ups and downs. In his own words: "I believe that music is a unique way to express the kinds of things we all go through every day. I want my music to be relatable to people, because I think you can really communicate an idea through song if your lyrics are believable and authentic." Musically, the songs are very approachable and easy to listen to, and the style is beautifully simplistic.

Lane Norberg's music continues to influence people everywhere. Since releasing the "Under the Trees"

EP in Fall 2017, he has toured all over the Pacific Northwest, gaining many faithful fans and listeners along the way. Norberg currently lives in Portland, OR, where he continues to write, record, and perform his music.

Chasing Ebenezer

Tribal folk rock

Tribal folk rock band Chasing Ebenezer is based in Portland, Oregon and released their first album Outcasts & Refugees in March 2017. The project is a culmination of two years of recording. Through a fusion of folk, rock, blues, and world music percussion and progressions, this record explores the figurative way we are all displaced people and challenges listeners to care for the literal outcasts and refugees of society.

Benjamin and Heidi Beth Sadler met in college in Virginia and matured their sound after moving to Portland in 2007. After playing under another name for a few years, they relaunched as Chasing Ebenezer in 2013. In May 2016, they released "Slavery," a song written from the perspective of an enslaved sex worker. They released a new music video and single called "Say" in April 2018.The band has played at White Eagle Saloon, Mississippi Pizza Pub, Northwest Folklife, Operation Overcoat, Taste of Parkrose, and Gresham Farmers' Market. They have been covered by Oregon Music News and The Gresham Outlook. They have also played in support of many non-profit organizations and partner with people and groups blessing the community. Their songs have been featured by Portland Radio Project 99.1 FM, Local Roots Music NW 100.7 FM in Salem, Portland Metro Records' Fire Mondays, and the Indie Music Lives Here Podcast

The band plays with a full-on rock sound and a folk sensibility borrowing from traditions all around the world. Heidi learned to play classical violin in Romania before honing her folk singing and bohemian violin style. Ben utilizes four different guitars, Dobro, and ukulele to give each song its own sound. He finger picks melodies and draws from Spanish and Irish guitar playing and Eddie Vedderesque vocals. Ryan Souders (drum kit) and David Skones (guitar, bass, cello) crank the rock 'n roll to the next level while Bryan Atkinson adds spice on djembe, congas, and bongos.

Common Hours

Portland-based four-piece Common Hours are an easy listening alternative rock group with a mellow, yet compelling style. The band consisting of Adam Black, Ariel Roxanne Cook, August George, and Dillon VanBuren released their debut EP A Life Worth Living on May 5, 2018. The EP, recorded by J.M.
