About Simon Kornelis

Simon Kornelis

Simon Kornelis is a Pacific Northwest Singer and Songwriter. His largest influences are Mississippi John Hurt, M. Ward, Randy Newman, Tom Waits, Wilco, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. His last, large batch of songs were written and based on his time living in South Korea and traveling on the Trans-Siberian Railroad. More recently, Simon is writing songs based around the Sunshine Mine Disaster of 1972. In early May, 1972, over 90 miners died in an anomalous fire in the Silver Valley region of North Idaho. The Silver Valley is also home to Wallace, ID, once a haven for women run prostitution, gambling and home of the last stop light on Interstate 90. you really have to hear this guy talk about mining disasters. The songs are pretty good, too.
