Great Moments in Hammerhead History

For fans of our beloved McMenamins Hammerhead Ale, know ye this: legend has it that the brew's hallowed recipe was perfected here. Actually, Fulton Pub dates back to 1926, when it was a Prohibition-era hangout serving home-cooked meals, pinball games, stogies, candy and ice cream. Speculation says that during Prohibition the pub might even have provided patrons the odd pint o' beer as an unadvertised special.

What is certain is that when the prohibition against strong drink did end in America, it wasn't long before the present-day Fulton location became a beer parlor. It was also later a workingman's bar known as the Home Tavern. The Fulton was renovated and opened by McMenamins on Cinco de Mayo in 1988. Today, we faithfully serve up hearty pub fare in an artistic, intimate setting in Portland's Macadam neighborhood. We've got casual dining for the entire family, either indoors, in our funky, yet cozy pub or outside in our fantastic garden patio.

Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 12 midnight
Sunday, 12 noon to 11 p.m.

McMenamins' pubs are truly places for families and friends, as they have been since 1983. Inside all of our places inspired artwork abounds and cozy booths and long, family-style tables invite folks of all ages to enjoy great conversation over a hearty meal and the glint of a fresh pint. We produce a whopping 200-plus ales each year which means you'll always have a wide selection to choose from. Classics such as raspberry-tinged Ruby, medium-bodied Hammerhead and dark, strong Terminator Stout are always available. Edgefield wines and spirits round out the choices and, if that wasn't enough, our menus feature classic pub fare with a Northwest kick! Choices range from sensational salads and wonderfully cheesy pastas to generous burgers made with naturally grown, hormone free beef from Oregon Country Beef.
