About Bridgetown Sextet
Over the past decade, Portland's own Bridgetown Sextet has become a pillar of the Pacific Northwest's robust vintage hot jazz and blues scene. The ensemble performs authentic, energetic roots jazz from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, with a sound evoking Creole New Orleans, the stomp of prohibition-era Chicago, and the tight swing of depression-era Manhattan. The group recaptures the combustible feel of these early jazz innovations with a unique, original sound that moves beyond the tenets of preservationism. While the band's most recent disc, 2015's Stomp Defined, stands as a quintessential representation for the vintage jazz and swing renaissance exploding across the globe, the Sextet's live show is where they truly glow, full of astounding precision and impeccable musical timing that must be seen to be believed. This Festival appearance marks the return of the groups' founder Andrew Oliver, who now resides in London.
"If you want to get a feel for what the Land of the Free sounded like when Jelly rolled and Armstrong growled, . . . check out The Bridgetown Sextet." ~The Portland Tribune
