About Electronic Health Records: The Future or Fool’s Gold?

With Dr. Jeffrey Gold, pulmonary and critical care physician at Oregon Health and Sciences University

How many of you have been to the doctor and watched everyone who works there, busily enter data into a computer?  How many of you have seen an old fashioned paper health record?  Now, which do you assume would be easier to get information out of? Stay tuned, the answer may surprise you!

In this talk, Dr. Jeffrey Gold will explain the impact the growth of Electronic Health Records have had on patient safety and quality in the U.S. He will further delve into novel strategies his group is employing to better train health care physicians to use these complicated programs, as well as provide a basis for intelligent redesign. This includes the creation of an Electronic Health Record simulation exercise recorded with eye-tracking technology to really see what one looks at and why?

Dr. Jeffrey Gold is a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician at Oregon Health and Sciences University. He received his MD from New York University and has trained at both NYU and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.  He currently serves as the Program Director for the Pulmonary Critical Care and Medical Critical Care training programs and serves as Co-Director for the OHSU Simulation Center.
