About Hanz Araki Band
Billed as "The next generation of 'trad' music," Irish flute player and singer Hanz Araki is the quintessential world music musician. He has toured internationally with Juno Award-winning The Paperboys and The Casey Neill Trio, The Bridies and Portland's all-star Pogues cover band, among others, and is featured on over a dozen recordings and soundtracks, along with his own acclaimed CDs.
Oregon native Kathryn Claire studied classical violin and voice and has performed regularly from early childhood. She has created a sound of fiddle-playing wholly her own through a broad spectrum of influences; from Eastern European folk music and Flamenco to swing and bluegrass, that all inform her playing of jigs and reels. Because of her ability to play comfortably in so many genres, she has shared the stage with groups like The Portland Cello Project and Jonah.
Cary Novotny has asserted himself in the pantheon of Irish guitar players with his seemingly unending energy. Cary has recorded and performed with many great bands in the world of Irish music, including Bridgetown, Kevin Burke, and the The Bridies, featuring fiddlers Maire Egan and Brenda Curtin (of Michael Flatley's "Lord of the Dance"). Novotny infuses traditional melodies with undeniable contemporary groove, appealing to the tastes of the modern audience, yet based in the centuries old tradition of Irish music.
