About Dan O'Sullivan
Here are three of Dan O'Sullivan's favorite comments people have made describing his music:
"A cross between James Taylor and Jerry Garcia"
"A one man version of Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds"
"Eric Clapton meets Harry Connick Jr."
Singer/guitarist Dan O'Sullivan made the decision a few years ago to focus on his own music after having spent 15+ years performing throughout California, touring the western United States, Mexico and Asia as a lead guitarist for other artists. Writing songs about life and love's conundrums with humor and sadness and setting them to music with enough harmonic movement to not get lost in today's pop musical landscape, he put together the core of his current repertoire. He adds to this a diverse bag of gems and has fun mixing them into a coherent show -- a Tom Waits rocker, a 17th century Irish instrumental, a jazz standard, the latest pop hit from Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson -- played in his own style.
With just an acoustic guitar and his voice his genre would most easily be described acoustic folk/rock. However, the subtle and tasteful use of a looping pedal recording his guitar while he sings and then playing back enables him to get two guitar parts going for a little fun jamming. Here you can hear what effect 15+ years of playing everything from straight-ahead jazz to reggae to funk to Americana rock can have on a man.
For the nearly the past three years he has been on a performance schedule of 3-6 gigs a week. Based in Los Angeles, he has made his way up through California to Oregon, and is planning shows in adjacent states.
