Hailing from Sumner, a small town in Washington between Seattle and Tacoma, James Coates is a singer that carries with him a vocal raspiness usually reserved for Bob Dylan or Tom Waits, as well as a pension for personal, emotional songs that you'd only expect to hear from Neil Young or Joni Mitchell. He portrays all this through a rootsy tapestry to create songs that are soulful and spiritual.
