The 19th Annual Hillsdale Brewfest was held last Saturday, February 25, 2012, with great fanfare and loads of merriment. After a long, raucous day of sampling each of the 22 ales on offer, the ballots were tallied and the results are in.
This year's battle was the closet finish yet with the winner edging out the second-place finisher by a mere 3 points! That's just ONE first-place vote that made the difference! (Never let it be said that your votes don't matter at this affair.)
Without further ado:
In 3rd place, with her Treme Northwest Amber from Jennifer Kent -- Thompson Brewery & Public House (Salem, Ore.)
In 2nd place, with a Mad Hatter Imperial IPA by Mark Goodwin -- from our newest brewing facility, the Old Church Brewery (Wilsonville, Ore.)
And now, drum roll please...
The winner of the 2012 Battle of the Belt is...
FREEWILL IPA! Congratulations to brewer Tim Proctor of John Barleycorns Pub (Tigard, Ore.) for his courageous win and stalwart efforts! As this year's belt holder, John Barleycorns will represent McMenamins at the 2012 Oregon Brewers Festival.
This is the first Belt victory for John Barleycorns. However, this is the fourth time that Tim has had his name added to the Belt! He also took the prize with his partners from Concordia Brewery in 2006, 2009 & 2010. Nice work, Tim. We're proud to have you on board.
And on behalf of the Hillsdale Brewery & Public House and McMenamins Breweries, we'd like to thank everyone for coming out for this years event.
Hope to see you all in 2013 for the 20th Annual Hillsdale Brewfest, because the gloves will be coming off again.
