Ale & Cider On Tap
Originally created at the Thompson Brewery over 20 years ago on October 15, 1991 and made once a year by all Thompson Brewers to come after that, Black Widow has become an expected and welcome Halloween treat at the Thompson Public House in Salem. Black Widow’s web envelops the entire company every year now. Each deep-black goblet of Black Widow is packed full of the robust notes afforded by generous amounts of black and roast malts and further spirited with ethereal wisps of caramel and licorice. Both substantial and sublime, this elixir is sure to slake the most fiendish of thirsts. Open up a creaking pub door, find a seat with friends and family and nourish your inner ghoul with a brew steeped in tradition and mystery. A good howl at the Cheshire moon couldn’t hurt, either.

On Nitro Tap:
McMenamins Irish Stout
This is our Halfway to Saint Patrick’s Day Seasonal and will pour exclusively on our nitro taps for the occasion. McMenamins Irish Stout is our interpretation of the internationally renowned beer style that originated in Ireland. McMenamins Irish Stout is made as traditionally as possible with our own little twist. It is a very dark, ebony-colored stout with a thick, creamy and long-lasting head. The flavor is a fantastic fusion of coffee-like roasted barley bitterness and semi-sweet chocolate. A moderate hop bitterness balances pleasingly with this hearty backbone, while tiny nitrogen bubbles enhance the sensation on your taste buds with a smooth, silky creaminess. One sip will have your head in the Emerald Isle clouds. A touch of the Irish, the blessings of St. Patrick and a pint of McMenamins Irish Stout to you!
Malts: Pale Ale, Flaked Barley, Brown, Chocolate, Roast
Hops: Chinook, US Golding
OG: 1.045 TG: 1.007 ABV: 4.90 IBU: 38 SRM: 32
Made with boysenberries instead of the raspberry puree this light, crisp, and refreshingly fruity ale is slightly more tart and fuller bodied than our ruby recipe. This is a pub favorite. Seriously, people go crazy when we put this on tap.
Malts: Premium Two Row
OG: 1.040 TG: 1.006 ABV: 4.39 SRM 3
Perle Gates Blonde Ale
Nope, that’s not the light to heaven you’re seeing. It’s a fresh pint of blonde ale made with Perle hops (pronounced PER-LAY). Pale malts make up the majority of the bill, but we threw in just enough flaked barley and a dash of Crystal 40L to give you some flavor to enjoy without overdoing anything. Restrained bitterness and low key late additions of Perle hops contribute an earthy crispness reminiscent of that fall breeze as we’re ushered out of summer into the multi-colored glories of autumn in the Pacific Northwest. You might look out the window and recognize this brew’s orange hue in the trees as they are shaking off their leaves.
Malts: Pale Malt, Flaked Barley, Crystal 40L
OG: 1.054 TG: 1.007 ABV: 6.06 IBU: 27 SRM: 6
Big Bad Wolf Wheat
Our summer-long wheat ale has come to an end. As a final hurrah we doubled the dosage of rose-hips in the kettle to give a bigger, bolder presence. Still a firm tribute to my favorite Doctor Who character in the series, and still wonderfully tasty brew with a crisp citrus and fruit zest there’s nothing that transcends time and space like a fine beer. Cheers!
Malts: Wheat, Two-Row, Organic Crystal 60L
Hops: U.S. Golding Additional: Rose-hips
OG: 1.052 TG: 1.007 ABV: 5.25 IBU: 11 SRM: 5
Beer – like all spirits – is a thing that puts us in communication with the history of civilization. Centuries before we even knew what yeast was humans were boiling up concoctions and leaving them to magically start fermenting. Even now as rapidly as we are learning about the chemistry and overall make-up of fermentation there is still so much we are confounded by in the process. So, sometimes, in the pursuit of knowledge, it’s appropriate and necessary to sit back and revel in the mystery of the things we don’t yet know or understand. What better way to do that than with a lightly malted, heavily hopped and bitter IPA. Lose yourself in the fruit-citrus aromatics and flavors before being grounded by a fine bitterness washing over on the finish.
Hops: Chinook, Horizon, Crystal, Simcoe, Centennial Dry Hopped: Crystal
OG: 1.060 TG: 1.011 ABV: 6.32 IBU: 59 SRM: 7
One of our most popular standards, we still make Ruby with the same aims we had when brewing the first batch back in March 1986: To create an ale light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Great Western Premium 2-row and 42 pounds of Oregon-grown and processed raspberry puree is used to craft every colorful batch. Simple but delicious. Taste the original!
Malts: Premium 2-row Malt
OG: 1.039 TG: 1.005 ABV: 4.3
Black as the darkest night, rich as the most decadent dessert, Terminator is for the true stout lover. This is a full bodied and flavor packed ale which draws its robust complexity from kiln-baked specialty grains. Look for a wide array of toasted, chocolate, nutty and coffee-like flavors in every pint! The devoted swear by it, and it remains one of our top selling ales year after year.
Malts: Premium 2-row Malt, Munich Malt, 40L Crystal, and Black Barley
Hops: Chinook and Cascade
OG: 1.065 TG: 1.015 ABV: 6.45 IBU: 30 SRM: 35
A classic Northwest pale ale and McMenamins top selling beer. This rich chestnut colored gem is a model of harmony between hops and malted barley. Hammerhead's signature Cascade hop nose and intense hopped flavor blend nicely with the caramel tones from the crystal malt. This beer has a vocal following. To run out is an unforgivable sin.
Malts: Premium 2-row Malt and 75L Crystal Malt
OG: 1.056 TG 1.010 ABV: 5.93 IBU: 44 SRM: 11
Edgefield Hard Apple Cider
Locally grown apples are juiced and fermented into a light, crisp and refreshing hard cider.
Edgefield Blackberry Hard Apple Cider
Dark garnet in color, the aromas of fresh blackberries burst from the glass. The slightly tannic and tart blackberry component is balanced out by a small amount of residual sugar, while the fermented apple rounds out the mid-palate and finish.
Hand-crafted at the Highland BrewPub by brewer Tyler Staples unless otherwise noted.
