Max's Lanson ESB
Max Zimmerman was a famous brewmaster. He worked for Blatz Brewing in the Midwest as well as Blitz-Weinhard here in Portland. After he passed away, his son John, a Hillsdale regular, invited Mike and Brian to his father’s estate sale. In addition to procuring what would become the Hillsdale’s original mash tun and brew kettle, they found an unopened case of 1945 Lanson Champagne. Can you imagine? 1945 was possibly the finest vintage of the century in France. It was the end of the war. It was French Independence. And the wine was in great condition but for two bottles. For ten years straight this Champagne was the foundation ingredient of our Barley Mill Pub Anniversary Ale. The first bottle inspired the name of the 1986 anniversary ale, Longevity. The last bottle went into the batch of 1995, fifty years after the end of the war. This year, we kicked off the annual Barley Mill Brew lunch by uncorking another bottle of Lanson (although not a 1945 vintage!) and toasted Max and his famous Champagne. Cheers, Max!

Copper Moon has a bit more malt quality and hop character than most other summer seasonals, giving rise to a refreshing, flavorful beer style that we like to identify as a Summer Pale Ale. A flavorsome yet summery smooth sweetness is the first thing you’ll taste. The hop flavor and aroma intermingle delightfully to generate a dazzling citrusy, floral and slightly spicy olfactory experience. The deceptive strength of this heavy hitting IPA is hidden well behind a veil of refreshing smoothness brought on by the use of red wheat and amber malt. The malt bill gives way to a combination of distinct NW hop varieties and dry hopping with Falconers Flight 7c’s ensures a very assertive hop nose and pallet. If Eventide IPA had only one thing to say it would be “G’Nite”!

McMenamins Irish Stout
McMenamins Irish Stout is our interpretation of the internationally renowned beer style that originated in Ireland. McMenamins Irish Stout is made as traditionally as possible with our own little twist. It is a very dark, ebony-colored stout with a thick, creamy and long-lasting head. The flavor is a fantastic fusion of coffee-like roasted barley bitterness and semi-sweet chocolate. A moderate hop bitterness balances pleasingly with this hearty backbone, while tiny nitrogen bubbles enhance the sensation on your taste buds with a smooth, silky creaminess. One sip will have your head in the Emerald Isle clouds. A touch of the Irish, the blessings of St. Patrick and a pint of McMenamins Irish Stout to you!

Belgian Purple Haze
A light, crisp and refreshingly fruity ale made with boysenberries. Purple Haze is very lightly hopped to allow the berry flavor to shine. Slightly more tart and fuller bodied than our Ruby recipe, this limited edition was brewed with Belgian Ale yeast.

Magic Mountain Hefeweizen
This classic Bavarian style wheat beer is tawny, tart and beclouded. Brewed on the sight of the former Pierce Sanitarium in Hillsdale and crafted to aid in the relaxation and physical wellbeing of all those who partake, we gladly present this golden elixir for your nourishment. And remember, lemons are for tourists.

A classic Northwest pale ale and McMenamins top selling beer. This rich chestnut colored gem is a model of harmony between hops and malted barley. Hammerhead's signature Cascade hop nose and intense hopped flavor blend nicely with the caramel tones from the crystal malt. This beer has a vocal following. To run out is an unforgivable sin.

Black as the darkest night, rich as the most decadent dessert, Terminator is for the true stout lover. This is a full bodied and flavor packed ale which draws its robust complexity from kiln-baked specialty grains. Look for a wide array of toasted, chocolate, nutty and coffee-like flavors in every pint! The devoted swear by it, and it remains one of our top selling ales year after year.

One of our most popular standards, we still make Ruby with the same aims we had when brewing the first batch back in March 1986: To create an ale light, crisp and refreshingly fruity. Great Western Premium 2-row and 42 pounds of Oregon-grown and processed raspberry puree is used to craft every colorful batch. Simple but delicious. Taste the original!

Edgefield Hard Apple Cider
Locally grown apples are juiced and fermented into a light, crisp and refreshing hard cider.
Edgefield Pomegranate Hard Apple Cider
A blend of pomegranate and apple juice, the subtle pomegranate flavors blend nicely with those from the apple, bringing a bit of astringency and color to the mix. A bit sweeter than our standard hard cider, the Pomegranate Cider balances this sweetness with natural acidity and carbonation.
